The ancient Salernum was founded by the Romans in 197 BC. The historical center is the core of the old tow, with its medieval narrow alleys.
Salerno is located in the centre of a touristic district with a high landscape, historical, cultural and archaeological value of international importance, so much so that three geographic areas have been declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
The National Park of Cilento and Vallo di Diano is one of Europe’s largest nature reserve, that extends for 215,000 hectares.
From Salerno, in 20 minutes, you can reach the extraordinary finds of the cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Torre Annunziata and neighboring cities, buried by the eruption of Vesuvius of 79 AC.
